The Central Government has officially notified the Industrial Relations (Central) Rules, 2026 on 08th May 2026 vide Gazette Notification No. CG-DL-E-08052026-272336. The new rules aim to streamline industrial relations, strengthen dispute resolution mechanisms, and modernize employer-employee engagement practices across establishments in India. Key provisions include mandatory formation of Works Committees in establishments employing 20 or more workers, constitution of Grievance Redressal Committees with equal representation from management and workers, standardized settlement procedures through Form-I, and recognition of trade unions with a minimum 30% membership requirement. The rules also introduce procedures for verification of trade union strength through secret ballot systems, adoption of Model Standing Orders, electronic submission of grievances and union documents, and enhanced compliance obligations through digital and physical record maintenance.
