The Labour Department of Uttar Pradesh has initiated strict enforcement action under the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970 by cancelling a contractor’s license for failure to comply with statutory labour provisions, including non-payment of overtime wages at double rates and bonus payments. The department also noted the contractor’s failure to respond to official notices and refusal to accept communications, leading to further regulatory action. Under Section 21(4) of the CLRA Act, the principal employer has been directed to make direct wage payments to affected workers and recover the amount from the contractor’s bills. The case also raises the possibility of blacklisting the contractor on the Nivesh Mitra portal, serving as a strong warning to employers and contractors regarding timely statutory payments and strict labour law compliance.
